Rangers failed to complete a move for Morgan Whittaker because the Swansea board want to see the player used by Russell Martin.

The Championship outfit have an outside chance of the Playoffs in the second half of the season and recalled Whittaker after an explosive first half of the season at Plymouth Argyle.

Ibrox manager Michael Beale has since confirmed that Rangers then launched a solitary bid for the player but that it looked likely the attacker would stay out at Swansea.

Swansea opt to keep Morgan Whittaker

Now, journalist Jordan Campbell has offered some clarity on the situation with Rangers links to Morgan Whittaker going cold as the window rolls to a close.

According to the Athletic writer, Morgan Whittaker wanted a switch to Rangers but with playing resources thin on the ground at Swansea, the club’s board want to see the 22-year-old on the pitch at the Liberty Stadium.

“Morgan Whittaker to Rangers definitely dead I’m told,” tweets Campbell.

“Not expecting him to leave Swansea at all this window. Player was very keen on the move to Ibrox over all other options but Swansea are short on numbers and their board want him used.”

This follows on from similar claims from
Ibrox media partners Heart & Hand, who also suggested a deal was dead for now.

The Ibrox fan media went on to claim that unless there was a “dramatic last-minute change” this would still be the case.

It means that Rangers’ January deals begin with Todd Cantwell and end with Nicolas Raskin as both players help bolster a stagnant midfield.

Both players represent exciting signings at important junctures of their careers and let’s hope they go on be big hits with Rangers.

Whilst Morgan Whittaker doesn’t appear to be Rangers bound, what is next on Deadline Day?
