It’s often said that few go on to better or bigger things when they leave Rangers.

It’s an old adage the club is desperately trying to change as they look to kickstart a profitable player trading model at Ibrox.

But as part of the club’s change of direction in squad planning and the transfer market, several of the overpaid old guard have had to be sacrificed.

Now almost six months on from his summer Rangers exit, there’s one veteran ex-Ibrox star who is having difficulty finding a new club after a challenging few years in Glasgow.

Kemar Roofe released by Rangers

Kemar Roofe played a crucial role in firing Rangers to 55, with the ex-Leeds United and Anderlecht striker the club’s top league scorer in his first season at Ibrox.

But the following three seasons, although they had their big moments, were a constant source of frustration for a player who has plenty of talent but major injury problems.

One of Rangers’ highest-earners, the Gers paid Anderlecht around £4m to sign Roofe in the summer of 2020 and the striker spent four years in Glasgow.

As a result of the injury problems, was no surprise that Roofe was released at the end of his Ibrox contract at the end of May.

But over four months on from quitting Rangers, the Jamaican international striker is still without a club and at 31-years-old it’s quite a situation for the striker to find himself in.

Steven Gerrard believed Rangers had signed an ‘intelligent attacker’ back in 2020 with ex-sporting director Ross Wilson labelling Roofe a ‘primary target’ upon the hitman’s arrival.

Ex-Rangers striker without a club for over four months

Roofe is the only of those who left Rangers this summer who is still without a club, even veteran goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin managing to strike a deal with Swansea City.

There had been a few names mentioned alongside Kemar Roofe over the summer window.

First, Turkish side Sivasspor were mentioned as potential suitors, Roofe potentially set to join Borna Barisic, John Lundstram and Ryan Jack in moving out East.

But for whatever reason a deal never materialised amid rumours that Roofe was training with former club Oxford United.

These rumours were then shot down by Oxford manager Des Buckingham, who categorically told reporters ‘Kemar Roofe has not been training with the club’.

According to the Glasgow Times, here have also been links to Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle.

At the time of writing there has been no inclination that Roofe might hook with Wayne Rooney this season.

The entire thing has left a feeling of uncertainty lingering over Roofe’s future in football but let’s hope the ex-Rangers striker has something in the pipeline.

Injury might’ve devastated his time in Glasgow, but on his day there isn’t a defender around who would fancy facing off against a fully-fit Kemar Roofe.
