Ex-Rangers star Jordan Jones appeared to lament a comment he made after signing for the Ibrox club as the 27-year-old rejoins Kilmarnock.

The Rugby Park club have announced a loan deal for the Wigan Athletic winger that will see him return to Scotland for the second time despite only leaving the Gers for the DW only last year.

Jones had spent part of last season on loan with Premiership St Mirren.

The Northern Irish international will be hoping to recapture the sort of form that convinced Rangers and then manager Steven Gerrard to move for him in the January of 2019.

Jordan Jones’ three-year stint with Kilmarnock was probably the best period of the former Middlesbrough kid’s career and since leaving Ayrshire Jones’ career hasn’t been without controversy.

From the moment when Jones – a boyhood Rangers fan – signed for the Ibrox side on a pre-contract in 2019 the winger even courted massive controversy from the Kilmarnock fans.

Sending a tweet expressing his delight at signing for Rangers, despite still being a Kilmarnock player until the end of the season, the move rankled with supporters. Especially considering he included WATP in the message.

Acknowledging that his stint with Kilmarnock under Steve Clarke was the best time of his career, Jordan Jones moved to clarify the comments as he signed for what is now Derek McInnes’ side.

“In terms of playing-wise I spent a couple of the best years of my career here, I’ve had a difficult twelve months but I am desperate to get back to my best and what better place for me to do that than Kilmarnock, which feels like my home,” said Jones [KFC].

“I am here to help the team and hopefully we can have a really good season and achieve success together.

“I think with the fans , the majority appreciated what we all achieved in my last season here, but I know I made a few mistakes on my way out that I regret and if I could change that I would.

“Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. I am 27 now and a lot more mature, I am a dad now so life has changed a lot since then.

“I know the best way to get fans back singing my name is by scoring goals and creating assists and I am keen to get going as soon as possible.”

Ex-Rangers winger Jordan Jones hoping to reignite career at Kilmarnock

Controversy was never far away from Jordan Jones at Rangers either as he really failed to grab his chance with the side from the get-go after joining in the summer of 2019.

That reckless red card in an early-season 2-0 defeat to Celtic not only incurred the wrath of Gerrard, but it left the player with a serious injury that disrupted his first season at Ibrox.

The infamous Covid-19 breach alongside George Edmundson, where the two players attended a party in Glasgow’s west end with members of the general public, was also the final straw.

The winger was farmed out on loan to Sunderland before moving to Wigan and Rangers fans will be hoping for Jordan Jones’ sake he can get his career back on track at Kilmarnock.

In total, Jones made 19 appearances for Rangers, scoring once in a 5-1 drubbing of Motherwell in 2020 and now he’ll be returning to Ibrox in the colours of Kilmarnock.

Meanwhile, one Celtic fan has gone viral after he melted down on a popular radio phone in regarding Rangers’ sale of Calvin Bassey.
