Polarising figure in Rangers’ recent history takes brave decision amid recent USA reports

Ex-Rangers midfielder signs shock Ligue 1 deal after Serie A release

Former Rangers star Aaron Ramsey has signed a deal with Ligue 1 Nice as he looks to get his career back on track following his release from Juventus.

The Welsh international midfielder, 31, has joined the French outfit after his six month stint in Glasgow and has put an end to much speculation surrounding his future.

According to reports, the likes of MLS newcomers Charlotte FC had expressed an interest in Aaron Ramsey but it will be France and not the USA the midfielder is rocking up next season.

Kudos to Ramsey for heading to France too; amid what has been a troubled period of his career, Aaron is entering a competitive environment in both Nice and Ligue 1.

The midfielder could’ve easily taken a payday elsewhere but instead the Welsh international – who was the nation’s youngest ever captain at 20 – will take on the challenge in France.

Taking to Twitter, the midfielder said he “can’t wait to get started” with OGC Nice.

Having had injuries plague his last few seasons, plenty are writing Aaron Ramsey off and from a Rangers point of view the ex-Arsenal midfielder’s stint in Glasgow was bitterly disappointing.

Showing flashes of his ability throughout the early part of the midfielder’s loan spell with Rangers, Ramsey consistently picked up little niggles as he worked his way back from the fringes of the Juventus team.

This prevented the midfielder having a proper impact on the Rangers team as the club’s transfer shortcomings from last season were shown up by their Premiership collapse in the second half of the campaign.

Aaron Ramsey was a marquee signing and has to take some responsibility for this but it’s in the Europa League Final where the midfielder will be most infamously remembered in Glasgow.

Subbed on in extra time, seemingly with the express intention of taking a penalty, the Welshman missed the definitive spot kick in Seville as Rangers lost 5-4 on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Meanwhile, one club from England’s top flight is reportedly set to announce a deal with a Rangers-linked star.
