Ex-Rangers kitman Jim McAllister is the latest name being linked to Saudi Arabia and a potential reunion with Al Ettifaq boss Steven Gerrard.

According to the Daily Record, the Liverpool legend is eyeing a move for the former Rangers staffer almost two years on from when he left Ibrox for Aston Villa.

Whilst Jim McAllister isn’t the most glamorous name linked to Saudi Arabia it looks like the former Rangers kitman could now be set to link up with Steven Gerrard.

This comes after the Jimmy Bell understudy was released by Rangers in the summer, although the Record’s report doesn’t go into the reasons why.

A former midfielder for Greenock Morton and Dundee, Jim McAllister joined Rangers under Steven Gerrard in 2021 and had taken on Jimmy Bell’s senior duties following the legendary kitman’s passing last year.

Jim McAllister the latest name linked to Saudi Arabia

The Jim McAllister links to Al Ettifaq, Saudi Arabia and Steven Gerrard come after an expensive summer of investment in the Middle East.

Rangers have been beneficiares of this themselves, with the club selling Fashion Sakala to Al Fayha, a deal we could later come to rue this season.

But with the likes of Karim Benzema (Al Ittihad), Neymar (Al Hilal) and Sadio Mane (Al Nassr) all moving to the division this season spending has topped £777m in a single window.

To give this some context, the Saudi Pro League is now the globe’s second highest spending division, second only to the English Premier League which sits at £1.12bn.

Not many would’ve bet that Jim McAllister would be the latest name to join that Saudi revolution but alas here we are with Steven Gerrard reportedly set to move for the kitman.

The ex-Rangers manager has enjoyed a bright start in Saudi Arabia so far with his Al Ettifaq side sitting fourth the Pro League table.

Gerrard is also now running the rule over one player who has been linked with a move to Ibrox in the past.
