Rangers are already hard at work in the club’s transfer dealings ahead of the January window opening.

Both interim chairman John Gilligan and director of recruitment Nils Koppen have pointed to work being done to kickstart Rangers’ winter transfer period pretty much from the moment it opens.

With expectations rising, there is already transfer chatter aplenty but Rangers could face some surprise competition for a former free-agent Ibrox star should they be interested.

Ryan Kent wanted in England & Saudi Arabia

Former Rangers winger Ryan Kent is now on the hunt for a new club after being released from Turkish giants Fenerbahce earlier this month.

The 27-year-old attacker has had a disastrous 18 months or so in Istanbul and is now free to negotiate terms with a new side ahead of a potential January switch.

Amid reports that Ryan Kent rejected a potential return to Scotland this summer, there’s plenty of attention on where the ex-Liverpool winger will wind up come January.

Rangers, naturally, have been mentioned but the Scottish Sun have thrown a shock name into the hat with regards a move for Kent.

English League One outfit Leyton Orient are said to be genuinely interested in a deal for Kent, whilst long-term suitors Leeds United have once again been mentioned.

There is also reportedly interest from Saudi Arabia as Ryan Kent weighs up his options after seeing his four-year contract cut short in Türkiye.

Rangers manager tried to sign Ryan Kent

The news comes after Rangers manager Philippe Clement was asked about Ryan Kent’s availability following the winger’s release from Fenerbahce.

The ex-Club Brugge manager tried to bring Kent to Belgium before Rangers forked out £7m to bring the winger to Glasgow from Liverpool after an initially successful loan stint.

Refusing to be drawn on the links, Clement is clear Kent is a player that he knows although he would not say if it’s someone the club might look to add to their squad in January.

Rangers have been linked to a number of left-wing attackers with the Gers short in the final third and believed to be on the hunt for a new option in the position.

“I’ve said already in this past year that I don’t go into rumours because then it never stops,” Clement told reporters a few weeks ago. “So I’m not going to go into rumours.

“But of course, I know the player, and I’ve known him a long time, because the moment he went to Rangers, I was in talks with him to get him to (Club) Brugge.

“But there was a better deal, I think, in Rangers, in that way, so he chose for that. So, I’ve known him a long time, but I’m not going into rumours about bringing players on.”
