Fans of EFL League One outfit Morecambe are rejoicing after their club snapped up Rangers winger Josh McPake on a season-long loan deal.

McPake made his first-team debut for the Gers in a Europa League qualifying match against St Joseph’s in July 2019 but since then has mainly been away from Ibrox on a series of loan spells.

He represented both Dundee and Morton in the SPFL before getting his first taste of the EFL with Harrogate Town in League Two over the second half of last season.

His performances there earned him a new deal at Rangers which was confirmed on Thursday afternoon. The 19-year-old was already contracted until the end of next season, but now he’s tied down until 2024.

“I am very pleased, I have worked really hard for it and I am delighted to extend my contract here,” he said [Rangers.co.uk].

“I loved my loan time at Harrogate last season, moving away from home was difficult under the circumstances but I think I have really matured and really found myself.”

The same release that announced his new deal also confirmed that he’d be heading to Morecambe for 2021/22.

The move constitutes a step up for the Scotland youth international as he will now be testing himself in the third tier of English football, having netted four times in League Two over the second half of last season.

Interestingly, he looks to be replacing former reported Rangers target Carlos Mendes Gomes, who recently left Morecambe for Luton Town.

The move has gone down extremely well with Shrimps fans, who are excited about what the left winger will offer.
