Rangers loanee Neraysho Kasanwirjo is back in the Netherlands as he recovers from knee surgery earlier in the season.
But there is some confusion surrounding the Feyenoord defender’s current status with the versatile Dutch U21 international in something of a transfer limbo.
Rangers signed a season long loan deal for Neraysho Kasanwirjo in the summer and boast an option-to-buy as part of that agreement.
And after the curious case of one Croatian international was settled on transfer deadline day, it appears Rangers are still well within their rights to activate it.
Neraysho Kasanwirjo still on loan at Rangers?
Neraysho Kasanwirjo had impressed at the beginning of his loan stint with Rangers but saw the move cruelly cut short in November.
Injured whilst playing for the Dutch U21s against England, the resultant surgery has kept Nana out of action ever since with no firm date for a return to action.
Reports have claimed that Rangers retain an interest in signing Kasanwirjo in the summer but the situation with the 22-year-old threatened to take a fresh twist this January.
That’s because Feyenoord wanted to cancel Kasanwirjo’s Rangers loan contract in order to facilitate the exit of Luka Ivanusec.
Feyenoord paid £8.5m (€10m) to sign Ivanusec from Dinamo in 2023 but there were reports that the Croatian club wanted to arrange a loan homecoming this January.
Rangers have Kasanwirjo option-to-buy
Dutch rules mean Feyenoord can only loan six of their players to foreign clubs with Kasanwirjo’s injury status putting the Rangers deal under threat.
But as the window closes, Ivanusec has remained at Feyenoord amid links to NK Dinamo and Kasanwirjo, as far as we can tell, is still technically a Rangers player.
Rangers really felt the impact of Kasanwirjo’s absence, with injuries to John Souttar, James Tavernier, Dujon Sterling and Leon Balogun hitting the club all at once.

In response Rangers have signed another defensive loan-to-buy deal, this time bringing Rafael Fernandes to the club from Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
Whether Rangers are interested in signing one or both of Fernandes and Neraysho Kasanwirjo we will have to wait and see.
For the time being Kasanwirjo isn’t out of the picture at Rangers with Four Lads Had a Dream claiming the club can secure his services permanently for ‘a bit more’ than £1.5m.
