As Rangers reportedly close in on a double striker swoop for Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers, the reports raise doubts over claims that the club launched a £7m bid for Haji Wright.

The Ibrox side could spend up to £8m on the Serie A striker pair, with Sam Lammers (Atalanta) and Cyriel Dessers (Cremonese) reportedly at different stages in their Rangers’ negotiations.

The latest suggests that Lammers, 26, is closing in on a move to Rangers with a medical imminent and an announcement set to follow at some point this week.

Cyriel Dessers has also been extensively linked to Rangers, the striker having just suffered relegation with Cremonese and not willing to ply his trade in the Italian second tier.

The Gers are hoping to take full advantage and whilst negotiations are going the right way, the latest suggests the Ibrox side’s opening bid was rejected in Italy.

But things might’ve been very different had the extensive reporting around Antalyaspor striker Haji Wright been recognised earlier in the club’s transfer pursuit.

Rangers reports raise Haji Wright questions

According to reports coming out of Turkey, Rangers had a £7m bid rejected for the USA international striker who hit 15 Super Lig goals last season.

At the time the reports certainly appeared to be a tad outlandish, but they were caveated by comments from Michael Beale towards the end of the season about spending money on a striker.

But for the price Antalyaspor reportedly want for Haji Wright (£8.5m), Rangers are now set to snap up two forwards with Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers closing in on moves to Ibrox.

The deals may well be the fourth and fifth signings of the summer window, with Rangers already announcing three pre-contract signings ahead of the new campaign.

Norwich City midfielder Kieran Dowell was the first to sign on at Ibrox, with Chelsea full-back Dujon Sterling and Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland following not long after.
