PSV Eindhoven have received plenty of calls for Fredrik Oppegard but the Rangers linked left-back is not yet close to leaving the Eredivisie leaders in the January transfer window.
That is according to Earnest Stewart, PSV’s technical director not expecting a repeat of last year’s drama, when star men Cody Gakpo and Noni Madueke departed for Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.
PSV have a title to win – ten points clear of reigning champions Feyenoord – and a 100 per cent league record to protect.
But while Fredrik Oppegard is one of the very few members of the PSV squad who may be allowed to leave if the offer is right, Rangers are reportedly interested in the Norway Under-21 international, Stewart insists that the Dutch giants are yet to receive an approach sufficient to twist their arm (Daily Record).

Rangers like PSV Eindhoven’s Fredrik Oppegard
“There have been calls left and right for Oppegard,” the director tells De Telegraaf. “But we are not yet at the point where it has led to anything.”
Oppegard, who spent much of last season on loan at Go Ahead Eagles, has not played a single minute of Eredivisie football in 2022/23. By the admission of PSV coach Peter Bosz, the speedy Scandinavian has three other left-backs ahead of him in the Philips Stadium pecking order.
“I don’t have to (let him go),” says the former Borussia Dortmund, Ajax and Lyon manager, who’s PSV side hammered Rangers in August’s Champions League qualifiers.
“But he is the fourth player now in his position.”
Glasgow giants chasing left-backs
An athletic, ball-carrying left-back more in the mould of Ridvan Yilmaz than Borna Barisic, Oppegard is perhaps one of the more attainable ‘southpaws’ on Rangers’ radar. Liverpool appear keen to retain Owen Beck with Kostas Tsimikas set for a long-term injury absence.
Josh Doig looks likely to stay in Italy – potentially with Torino – while Kai Wagner has signed a contract extension at MLS outfit Philadelphia Union.
Another more ‘gettable’ option, meanwhile, could be Gijs Smal of FC Twente.
