Former Rangers player and current Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Billy Dodds has officially won the race to sign ex-Ibrox defender Kirk Broadfoot.
Dodds played as a striker for the Gers for four years towards the back end of his career, winning three major honours during his time at the club.
Four years after Dodds’ departure for Dundee United, Broadfoot moved to Ibrox, where he would win four major honours between 2007 and 2012 and play in the UEFA Cup final.
Now, the two former Gers are set to work together in the Highlands.
Dodds was appointed manager of Caley Thistle in June and Broadfoot is his latest recruit.
The 36-year-old left Kilmarnock following their relegation from the Premiership at the end of last season and reportedly had offers from both English and Scottish clubs.
Despite the former Scotland international training with Queen of the South, it was Caley Thistle who eventually won the race for his signature, with his arrival on a one-year contract officially confirmed on Monday afternoon.
A Daily Record report claimed earlier this week that Broadfoot had been offered a start in coaching with Caley Thistle’s Academy and that could explain why he’s decided to drop to the second tier, despite an unnamed Premiership club allegedly registering interest.
Inverness are the sixth team of his 19-year professional career but Rangers is the only club at which he’s managed to win major honours.
In other transfer news, a Rangers starlet has signed a contract extension before joining a Premiership club on loan.
