David Edgar makes Rangers transfer claim after Robby McCrorie stars

If Jack Butland is to be Rangers marquee signing for between the sticks, he has a fight on with Robby McCrorie to be number one.

After his fourth Light Blues appearance and fourth clean sheet, it’s safe to say that the academy graduate has done his chances of keeping his place no harm at all.

Despite the last two performances from Robby McCrorie suggesting that he could be the man to replace Allan McGregor, Heart and Hand’s David Edgar still reckons that Jack Butland is a “done deal”.

Responding to a Rangers fan on Twitter, Edgar feels that a senior keeper will still be coming in to challenge McCrorie even if he maintains his current form.

Given McCrorie’s recent performances and that he is “one of our own”, bringing in Butland might not go down entirely well with fans.

What we do know is that we can trust McCrorie 100%.

Have Rangers given Robby McCrorie a tough time?

There have been cries since the 25-year old covered for Jon McLaughlin and McGregor last season and kept two clean sheets for McCrorie to get a run in the team.

With another two to his name, all being against decent opposition, he has shown that he has the mentality to be Rangers next number one.

He commanded his area, swept up behind his defence and produced a top class save when it was needed.

This doesn’t mean that the problem is solved though and Edgar is right.

Michael Beale needs to be bringing in someone like Gers-linked Jack Butland because you know what you are getting, there is nothing wrong with having two strong options.

McCrorie should now be given a bit more respect by the manager though, play him in the cups and in league games to give Butland a rest (if he signs) because he deserves it.

He’s been patient, waited for his chance and now he is grabbing it with both hands, it’s just a shame that the last three managers didn’t back him sooner because it might have won us more silverware having a keeper that could leave his line and make top class saves.
