Rangers have been tying up the loose ends on deals that had already been agreed and Nils Koppen’s attentions should now be turning to targets yet to put pen to paper.

Clinton Nsiala became the fourth official signing of the summer with Hamza Igamane expected to be close behind to replace the five who left at the end of their respective contracts

The word on the social media street is that Rangers need more first team starters and there has been an update on Damian Garcia, a player who would instantly improve Philippe Clement’s XI as well as his squad

Speaking only a week ago, Garcia’s agent Edgardo Lasalvia revealed that the powerhouse midfielder hasn’t agreed anything with Penarol and that his future is still up in the air:

“The player (Damián García) has a contract with Peñarol until December of this year, although we have started several conversations, we have not yet finalized the signing.

“I have no doubt that we are going to agree, but with the transfer period started, signing a contract without a clause, which is what is hindering our signing a little today, we are not going to do it.

“We are working hard on him, always trying to get him to stay to play in the Copa Libertadores with Peñarol.”

The 20-year old is tipped to move to Europe in this transfer window and, according to Uruguayan media outlet Caras and Caretas, Penarol are ‘negotiating his departure’ to Spanish football.

There are no clubs specified but the player has openly admitted that he wants to move to Europe to continue his development.

Can Rangers persuade Garcia to make Scottish move?

This is the perfect time to approach Garcia, if he is a target, due to his contract expiring at the end of December.

Rangers have signed Connor Barron to fill the holes left by John Lundstram and Ryan Jack

The narrative that Clement has to sign experienced players doesn’t wash when you consider who played in the middle of midfield for Dick Advocaat – Barry Ferguson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Two 21-year olds with clear talent at the beginning of their careers.

It’s not how old they are that matters, it’s their quality and mentality.

The manager knows that he needs to bring in better players and that there are holes in the midfield in particular, especially in terms of defensive midfield.

Garcia is experienced at senior level, has shone on the world stage at Under-20 level, missing out on a bargain deal could be one that Rangers live to regret.
