It’s hard to remember a more paradoxical Rangers frontman than Ibrox enigma Cyriel Dessers.
The Rangers number nine perplexes and amazes in often unequal measure, with the 30-year-old’s record of high profile misses ensuring his 24 goals this season are little comfort.
As Rangers spilled yet more points against St Mirren, Dessers’ teammate Liam Kelly filleting the Rangers squad in the process, the striker’s bipolar tendencies once again stood out.
After ballooning a first half effort over the bar, Cyriel Dessers completed an impressive team move with a neat finish into the bottom corner to give Rangers the lead in the match.
As Rangers brace for a summer clear out, the Nigerian international insists he has unfinished business at Ibrox.
But could Cyriel’s determination to extend his stay in Glasgow hurt Rangers’ efforts to sign a £5m-rated replacement?

Cyriel Dessers ‘hungry to win more trophies at Rangers’
Speaking ahead of Rangers’ 2-2 draw with St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, Dessers insisted he sees his future in Glasgow.
“I’m very keen,” Dessers told the press when asked if he’d like to stay at Rangers after the impending US takeover is complete.
“I came here two summers ago with the ambition to fight for trophies, to win trophies.
“Now I’m sitting here, we had two amazing runs in Europe, but we only won a trophy, and I don’t think that’s enough.
“I’m really hungry to win more trophies, more silver at this club. So, for me, I’m very keen.
“But obviously, like I say, there’s going to be a lot happening, but I’m looking forward to that as well.
“I don’t want to say that everything in these last two seasons has been bad domestically either.
“I think last season we had an amazing run in the second half of the season.
“We were fighting until, I think, two games before the league title.
“We got really close at certain moments. We went to three cup finals in a row, so not everything was bad.
“But obviously you want more. Like I said, we went to three cup finals, but you only won one, and that’s not enough at Rangers.
“We are well aware of that. So, yeah, you always want more, and that’s something that I work hard for every day in here in this building, but a lot of people are doing that as well.”
Rangers on hunt for £5m-rated international striker
As 49ers Enterprises look to take the reins at Rangers, there’s an argument that the club is already well-stocked up top.
Throw Cyriel Dessers into the mix along with Hamza Igamane and Danilo, and some argue that Rangers should spend in other areas of the squad.
But Cyriel’s inconsistency in front of goal is a major bugbear for Rangers fans who have their eyes on another frontman impressing in the Middle East.
Rangers watched Israeli hitman Dor Turgeman score his first goal for the country during the last international break and the links are very much live.
Sources close to the 21-year-old striker admitted to Rangers News that Turgeman would consider a switch to Rangers as a precursor to the Premier League.
But with newly-promoted Burnley also Turgeman suitors, Rangers fans know that there could be a race to secure the signature of the £5m-rated forward.
Should Dessers stick around into the next campaign alongside Igamane and Danilo, perhaps it’s one the club is destined to lose.
