It’s claimed that Rafa Benitez sees Patterson as a good option to come in and provide competition for first-choice right-back Seamus Coleman.

It’s further suggested that Everton ‘believe they may be able to get their man’ and are ‘pushing hard in this window’.

The story was picked up by multiple other outlets on Sunday afternoon, including the Daily Record.

Reacting to their tweet, David Edgar of official Rangers media partners Heart & Hand provided an update on the situation.

He confirmed that a bid had been tabled but stressed that it had already been rejected.

The news that the Gers quickly rejected a bid of £5m, which would be by far the biggest sale of the Gerrard era, will delight Rangers fans.

Plenty of pundits have claimed that the Light Blues’ failure to qualify for the Champions League would force the club to sell and sell quickly.

However, it’s clear that they won’t let key assets go unless very big offers come in.

Even though Patterson has made less than 20 senior appearances for the Gers, his potential is huge and it would surely take an eight-figure bid before the club would even consider letting such a fine homegrown talent go.

Meanwhile, a Rangers-linked player has signed a new contract at a Premier League giant before heading out on loan to an EFL Championship club.
