Rangers-linked midfielder James Garner has signed a new deal at Man United and secured a loan move.
The supremely talented 20-year-old spent time at both Watford and Nottingham Forest last season and he’s rejoined Forest for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

In April, his agent, Steven Beck, claimed that Rangers had tried to bring Garner to Ibrox in January only to miss out to Forest [Stretty News].
Later in the same interview, he asserted that the Light Blues retained interest ahead of the current transfer window.
As recently as last week, Garner’s future looked uncertain, with journalist Pete O’Rourke claiming the England youth international had rejected a new deal at Old Trafford and was ‘keeping his options open’.
However, on Sunday morning, United announced that Garner had signed a new deal until the summer of 2024 with the option of an additional year and was heading back to the City Ground.
“I’m made up, Manchester United has been a massive part of my life for over 10 years now,” he said [Manutd.com] “My ambitions are obviously to become a first-team player here. I know exactly what it takes, I’m ready to go and showcase my ability to everyone and keep on striving for all my goals.”
Rangers-linked Garner rejoins Forest
It would be no surprise if Steven Gerrard had genuinely been interested in Garner and the Gers have done transfer business with United already this summer, snapping up the slightly younger Charlie McCann on a permanent deal.
A loan for Garner was always going to be harder to pull off, though, as he’s a higher profile player.
Just like Chelsea with Billy Gilmour earlier in the summer, it was likely that United would want their asset to stay in England and it makes sense for him to return to a club where he had success during the second half of last season.
Meanwhile, a Euro club’s sporting director has provided an update on a reported Rangers target.
