A rival Scottish football club has settled the confusion regarding the future of 24-year-old Orlando City winger Chris Mueller after the interest of Rangers fans was piqued by the comments of a journalist.

The Florida club announced that the goalscoring wide man would be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the current MLS season.

Orlando City say that Mueller is set to move on come the culmination of the season which is set for November this year.

“Orlando City SC and Chris Mueller have been involved in contract negotiations for some time, with the forward’s contract set to expire following the 2021 Major League Soccer season,” reads an OCSC statement.

“Earlier, Mueller informed the Club that he has signed a pre-contract to join a European team upon the end of his time with Orlando City. The pre-contract was signed in line with all FIFA regulations.”

However, there was no mention of who the club might be here, with an apparently in the know journalist claiming that the player’s destination is likely to be Scotland.

Washington Post journalist Steven Goff believes that Mueller is set to make the trip across the Atlantic come November and is a reputable source when it comes to the American game.

This had some asking the question over whether or not Mueller could be the latest American to join the ranks at Ibrox.

Mueller has scored 21 goals and laid on 18 assists in 108 games for Orlando City and is one of the club’s top assets.

The winger also has two goals in two appearances for United States Men’s National team, so there is some international pedigree there too.

However, Hibs have since announced that Mueller will be turning out at Easter Road next season.

Mueller might not be joining the Gers but one player who many want at Ibrox has been speaking out amid reports of a Rangers bid.
