Champions League club outbid late Rangers offer for Serie A star – report

Rangers have reportedly submitted a late bid to sign Bologna winger Andreas Skov Olsen – but the offer has been pipped by the financial package put forward by Club Brugge.

According to Belgian outlet Football Krant, both the Ibrox side and Danish outfit FC Copenhagen have submitted €5m (£4.2m) offers for the 22-year-old winger.

However, that report also claims that this has made Club Brugge increase their bid to €7m (£5.8m) with the Belgian champions capable of offering a much stronger wage package.

Football Krant are also claiming they are “almost certain” Skov Olsen will be move to Brugge.

The Belgian report is the only one we can see at the time of writing that is making the claims surrounding a Rangers bid and no-one close to the club has confirmed this.

Rangers have been extensively linked with a move for Andreas Skov Olsen all January long but club insiders Heart & Hand have previously rubbished earlier claims of a bid being launched from Ibrox.

The suggestion Skov Olsen is set for a switch to Club Brugge also continues to grow stronger with Italian broadcaster Rudy Galetti claiming that the deal is at an “advanced” stage.

Club Brugge favourites to sign Rangers-linked Andreas Skov Olsen

If indeed Rangers were interested or did submit a bid and have subsequently lost out – a claim not yet ratified by anyone close to the club – it is perhaps a sign of how much further along in their development Club Brugge are compared to the Gers.

As Rangers work their way back from 2012 they are still rebuilding in modern terms whilst Club Brugge have an impressive transfer strategy and are Champions League regulars.

But until Andreas Skov Olsen is holding that scarf above his head – Club Brugge or otherwise – then all these of these claims simply add to the conjecture.

However, following the comments of Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic after the Serie A side’s 2-1 loss to Verona, it does appear Andreas Skov Olsen has played his last game at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

“They [Skov Olsen and teammate Mitchell Dijks] are players who no longer have the pleasure of staying in Bologna,” explains Sinisa Mihajlovic [Corriere di Bologna].

“So they have to go away. They pulled back.”

Rangers actively remain in the hunt to strengthen their side this January transfer window with the price reportedly set for another high-profile Ibrox target.
