Premier League hopefuls Burnley appear to have drafted the same transfer offers as Rangers in their email outbox this summer.

Only the potential impact of Premier League millions has allowed them to press ‘send’.

The Clarets have been regulars at Premier League level and manager Scott Parker is determined to get them back to the big leagues at the first time of asking.

And after snapping up one Rangers midfield target on a four-year deal, the Championship side have set their sights on another high-profile Gers link to bolster their attack.

Burnley strike deal for Hannibal Mejbri

Rangers were linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri earlier in the window.

The 21-year-old Tunisian was set to fall victim of the INEOS clear-out after failing to ever really grab his chances after five years at Old Trafford.

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano was the man who mentioned Rangers as Mejbri suitors, but it’s clear that any move for Hannibal depended on one thing and one thing alone.

Champions League millions.

After the Gers crashed out of European football’s elite competition any Ibrox move for Hannibal looked too ambitious and so it has proven.

Burnley have been strongly linked with a move for Hannibal all week and have officially announced a four-year deal for the midfielder as they look to bolster their promotion push.

Rangers Morgan Whittaker transfer hopes could be ended

If any Rangers fans are disappointed not to see Hannibal at Ibrox this summer, Burnley might just be about to deliver another blow.

With links to Brighton winger Jeremy Sarmiento going suspiciously quiet at Turf Moor, Burnley’s attentions have reportedly begun pointing in a familiar direction.

According to Fabrizio Romano – who must have some kind of link to the Burnley recruitment department – the Championship side are looking at Plymouth Argyle attacker Morgan Whittaker.

Making an ‘enquiry’ for the talented 23-year-old forward, this news may well be the final nail in the coffin for Rangers’ hopes of signing the winger.

Rangers have been linked with a move for Morgan Whittaker throughout the forward’s career and failed with a bid to bring the then Swansea attacker to Ibrox 18 months ago.

Reports had suggested that Rangers resurrected their interest in the now Plymouth forward this summer, with reports claiming the Gers had a £7m Whittaker package turned down.

With Burnley now involved, should Morgan Whittaker move to the Premier League hopefuls it will all but end any prospect of the winger rocking up at Rangers for the foreseeable future.

It’s been that kind of summer…
