Rangers have struggled to clear the deadwood needed to make room for new players this summer leaving Philippe Clement having to make do with what he’s got.
The manager has endured a difficult summer trying to rebuild his squad after an early flurry saw five players leave and a host of youngsters arrive to tick Nils Koppen’s player trading model box.
One area of the park that doesn’t seem to need any attention is left-back and yet Rangers have been linked with two players in recent days; Domagoj Bradaric and Brandon Williams.

Bradaric was said to be the subject of a loan to buy offer whilst Williams, available on a Bosman, has only just emerged as a possible option.
If Rangers want the 23-year old Man Utd academy product, they will need to move fast with Sevilla now reported by Fernando Serrano – of the Bombonera Insider Sevilla podcast – to be eyeing a move for the England Under-21 international.
At one point, Williams was seen as the future of the left-back position and a genuine contender to Luke Shaw.
After one Europa League performance against Partizan Belgrade, then manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer predicted bright things for his defender, via Sky Sports:
“And, for me, Brandon was man of the match. He’s been fantastic the few games he’s played. The boy has no fear, he is as brave as a lion, and he got us the win.
“In games like these when we get the first goal, we need to learn when to get the second, when to get the third.
“I thought today we had loads of opportunities to make sure we’re in a comfortable lead, but we didn’t play that pass forward.
“But Brandon has an absolutely great attitude. The boy is going to be a top, top player.”
Williams facing career crossroads and key transfer decision
Unfortunately, whether it is fame or fortune, Williams career trajectory hasn’t quite gone in the upwards direction that his former manager predicted.
With several off-field incidents raising questions about his attitude, Williams remains without a club.
Man Utd could have extended his contract by another year to bring in a fee but chose to release him instead.
Actions, almost speak louder than words.
Given his age, Williams isn’t quite in the last chance saloon, however, similar to Todd Cantwell for different reasons, he must soon realise the opportunity that he has in front of him.
Maybe a move away from England would do Williams good but could he handle the goldfish bowl that is life playing for either side of the Old Firm?
