As Scotland international midfielder Billy Gilmour is resurgent at Brighton, it makes all that talk of a potential Rangers switch nothing more than a fantasy.
The 21-year-old former Ibrox youth talent will undoubtedly be linked with a return to Rangers throughout his initially promising career and all of this points to a twilight return to Glasgow when the time is right.

But early suggestions of a potential Rangers loan move for Billy Gilmour appear to be a tad ambitious, given the former Chelsea star is back in the team at the AMEX Stadium.
Brighton splashed a reported £9m to sign Billy Gilmour from Chelsea last summer but, after manager Graham Potter went in the opposite direction and Roberto De Zerbi replaced him, chances have been at a premium.
Billy Gilmour back in Brighton reckoning
It’s not without good reason; Brighton are punching well above their weight in the English top flight and are currently on track to earn a European finish this season.
Gilmour has struggled to break into a team with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Alexis McAllister, with Italian coach de Zerbi previously claiming competition was keeping the player out the side.
But now, the Scotland kid has been involved in the last four Premier League games for the Seagulls, including three starts, and he even played an hour in the 3-0 victory over one-time title hopefuls Arsenal.
The former Rangers youth midfielder has earned huge plaudits for his performances in the last few matches and began to prove himself every inch the Premier League star Brighton splashed out to sign.
More than that, Gilmour’s recent Brighton resurgence proves that any suggestion Rangers could move to sign the player in the summer, even on loan, was never going to be realistic.
