In a big boost for Rangers, Ryan Kent-linked Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Dan James from Man United.
It’s been known for some time that Leeds were in the market for a new winger.
The Whites saw a bid in the region of £10m for Kent rejected last summer [BBC Sport] and were linked with the Gers star as recently as a few weeks ago [GiveMeSport].
However, their interest in Dan James goes back even further.
They almost signed the Wales international from Swansea City in January 2019 and have kept tabs on him ever since.
On Tuesday morning, it was reported that he was on the verge of securing a £30m switch to Elland Road [BBC Sport] and late in the afternoon, his capture was confirmed.
The 23-year-old has signed for Leeds on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee [Leedsunited.com].
The announcement effectively confirms that Kent won’t be leaving for Yorkshire in this window, as having already splashed the cash to strengthen out wide, there’s next to no chance the Whites will stump up an eight-figure transfer fee for another winger just hours later.
That’s a major boost for the Gers as although he’s made a slow start to the 2021/22 campaign, Kent is a key player.
Last season, he scored 13 goals and notched 15 assists in 52 appearances, and was one of the first names on the teamsheet for both domestic and European fixtures.
Kent may be staying put but according to a journalist, another winger may well be on his way out of Ibrox before the transfer deadline.
