Rangers have announced the signing of Jose Cifuentes in a deal that seemed to take an eternity to get over the line.

Michael Beale confirmed last week that a pre-contract agreement had been agreed, which eased fears, however, the delay in his announcement was still frustrating.

Speaking to the club’s media team, the Rangers manager hinted at what fans could expect when they see Jose Cifuentes finally pull on a shirt for The Famous and how long he has had his eye on him.

The 24-year old, who made two appearances at the Qatar World Cup for his country, has long dreamed of a move to Europe and is determined to stay in Europe for a long time.

Beale hints at Rangers role for Jose Cifuentes

Versatility is a huge asset and as Michael Beale revealed, Rangers, in Jose Cifuentes, have another dynamic option similar to Nicolas Raskin by the sounds of it:

“Jose is a player we have followed for a long time. I was originally aware of him when he broke through in Ecuador and I have followed him on his journey with LAFC in the MLS.

“He is a midfielder who can play in a variety of roles, both as a box-to-box player and in a more defensive role. He has excelled in the MLS and for his national team.

“When I returned to Rangers, he (Jose Cifuentes) was a name that was immediately discussed and one that we knew we would have a lot of competition to overcome if we were to sign him.

“When meeting to discuss the move, it was clear that we are aligned in our thinking and on his further development.

“I am delighted we have Jose here at Rangers and I must thank everyone involved in the process of making this transfer a reality.”

Raskin has shown in his short time for the club just how much of an upgrade he is.

His speed of movement and thought is quicker than any other player we have that operates in the hybrid 6/8 role.

Rangers will be hoping that Jose Cifuentes can replicate the Belgian’s impact and take the energy to another level.

John Lundstram and Ryan Jack will now find themselves further down the pecking order although the latter should still get the nod in more competitive games where we need a extra protection in front of the defence.

The Ecuador international will also be expected to add numbers to midfield but one thing is certain, Rangers midfield is going to be an entirely different proposition next season with Jose Cifuentes at the heart of it.
