Barry Ferguson has been impressed with Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez since his move from Peterborough in the summer.

The Ibrox outfit paid the English club £3m, which did seem a tad steep at the time as the majority of fans had not heard of him.

However, he quickly silenced his critics to become a first-team regular and arguably the best defender in the team.

Barry Ferguson thrilled with Emmanuel Fernandez’s improvement at Rangers

Ferguson has stated that the £3m Gers paid for him in the summer is now proving to be a bargain.

In his view, the Ibrox outfit will make good money from his sale in the future as his value is only going to increase.

The former Rangers boss believes that his improvement since his move to Glasgow has been “huge”.

He admits that the 24-year-old did make a few mistakes, but that is because of his lack of regular game time.

Fernandez appears to have overcome his rustiness in order to become a key first-team player.

When asked about his level of improvement since joining Rangers, Ferguson told Five Stars VIP: “Huge. When he first came in, there were a few mistakes, but then again, rusty, had not played a lot of football.

“He’s grown on me big time. As I said, he does take some chances, but he’s everything you would want in a centre-half.

“He’s a physical presence in both boxes and you can see each game he’s getting stronger and stronger, and at this moment in time. £3m looks to be a bargain, in my opinion.

“He’s certainly one that the club could make good money off in the future.”

Fernandez is already on the radar of the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea

Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with Fernandez as they are considering him as one of the options in the summer transfer window.

However, Rangers do not fancy selling him, given how important he has been to the first team.

That said, if one of the top Premier League sides comes knocking, the centre-back is likely to fancy moving there.

The Light Blues hold the advantage as they can then demand top dollar for his services and ensure that they make a decent profit from his sale.

They would ideally want him at Ibrox for at least another season, but there are certain things out of their control.
