Barnsley submit £500k offer for Rangers linked Wigan Athletic star - Journalist

Barnsley have submitted an offer of £500k for promising Rangers linked Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Rangers were linked with a pre-contract move for Joseph earlier this month [Sun on Sunday via Glasgow Live], but a number of other teams are also said to be interested in his signature.

Tottenham and Blackpool were linked in the same report, while Celtic and Sheffield United have also both been credited with interest by the Mirror.

It seems Barnsley are now very much in the frame, too, though.

Andy Giddings of the BBC reported last week that the Tykes had made a ‘substantial’ bid for Joseph, and now Nixon says they have come back in with an offer of £500k before any potential add-ons.

Nixon subsequently claimed that League One side Blackpool have now been priced out of a move.

There was no mention of Rangers in the updates regarding Joseph, suggesting that the club haven’t yet made a concrete offer.

Joseph broke into the Wigan first team in October and quickly established himself as a key player for the Latics, appearing in each of their last 14 League One fixtures.

He’s scored five times and notched one assist across those games, with his best performance coming away at Burton Albion last month, as he scored a hat-trick in a 4-3 victory.

Wigan are limited in terms of what they can demand for the young striker, given that he’s out of contract in the summer.

However, the number of clubs showing interest may be driving the price up ahead of the approaching transfer deadline.

Another striker reportedly on Rangers’ radar recently found the net against the club’s Europa League Round of 32 opponents following a potential Ibrox transfer hint.
