Rangers have once again been linked to USA international and Arsenal centre-back Auston Trusty as the defender breaks the silence regarding his future.

The Athletic have named the Ibrox side as a suitor for Auston Trusty this summer, with the Gers reportedly set to face competition following the player’s impressive season on loan at Birmingham City.

However, it is not clear who this competition will be from, with the Ibrox side the only club officially mentioned in the report.

The Athletic also claim that since the end of the season, the defender has stayed out of contact with his agent to focus on quality time with his family back in the USA and the country’s international side.

This may well explain why there has been such a lack of movement regarding the defender, who is one of a number of centre-backs linked to Rangers this summer.

Auston Trusty admits to discussions over his future

Auston Trusty was also asked directly about his future in the extensive interview and whilst he claims to be discussing his future with fellow professionals, his focus is on the USMNT.

The defender has only earned one cap but has been called up to country’s squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League clash with Mexico and the upcoming Gold Cup campaign.

“I definitely speak to the other players (about potential moves) because we’ve all been in these environments,” said Trusty.

“The football world is very small, so if you’re in a situation a lot of guys have been in, it’s good to talk to people here because not too many people, at least around me, other than my agent and the team, are going to understand the ins and outs fully.

“We all talk about it all day, all different scenarios and situations, which is good and helps me figure things out. But my mind really is focused on the national team right now. It’s hard for me to focus on (the transfer window) because it’s almost like I’m doing a discredit to the national team because it’s such an honor and privilege to be here.”

Rangers still in for Arsenal centre-back?

Trusty, 24, was named the Birmingham City supporters’ Player of the Year last season and the latest reports suggest Arsenal are ready to sell the ex-Colorado Rapids star permanently ahead of the new campaign.

The centre-back made 48 appearances for the Blues last season, scoring four goals.

This comes with Auston Trusty having never played for the Gunners with Rangers extensively linked to a move almost all summer long.

However, there were reports last week that Rangers have dropped their interest due to the Arsenal asking price but these links in the Athletic suggest the Ibrox side are still interested in the signing.

Rangers have also been extensively linked with a move for Nottingham Forest centre-back Jonathan Panzo ahead of the new season.
