Ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has reportedly turned his Aston Villa attentions away from Glen Kamara with Brighton star Yves Bissouma now the target of his gaze.
That’s according to a spate of reports – appearing to originate in Sky Sports – which suggest Villa could launch a £15m bid for the Malian international midfielder.
Yves Bissouma, 25, is in the final 18 months of his contract and as a result the Seagulls could be forced to deal at a cut price fee in Premier League terms.
But according to the Athletic, that won’t stop Brighton demanding a whopping £50m to sell the midfielder this month.
Where the links to Glen Kamara and Rangers come in concern earlier reports that Gerrard and Villa were weighing up a move for the Finnish international.
That was according to the Scottish Sun, who claimed that Everton, Southampton and Newcastle are also all monitoring Glen Kamara’s situation at Ibrox.
Aston Villa linked to Yves Bissouma amid Rangers Glen Kamara reports
Rangers star Glen Kamara was signed by Steven Gerrard in the January of 2019 and over the last three years has gone on to cement himself as a major Ibrox asset.
Signing a new deal until 2025 in the summer, anyone interested in signing Glen will need to stump up and the inference here is that a move for Yves Bissouma is more cost-effective.
Having just lost Nathan Patterson to Everton – for a reported £12m rising to £16m fee – Rangers are in a strong negotiating position and are under no pressure to sell players below their value.
Glen Kamara is believed to be amongst the most highly-valued at Ibrox and the 40-cap Finnish international will only leave Rangers if the price is right.
But we’d certainly be very surprised if Rangers are demanding anything like the £50m the Athletic claim Brighton are for Yves Bissouma.
Brighton star Yves Bissouma would follow the signing of Barcelona star Phillipe Coutinho at Aston Villa, with more moves expected throughout the window.
Whilst any Villa interest in Yves Bissouma could be good news for Rangers, one Premier League side continue to be linked to another key Ibrox star.
