Arsenal and Spurs are reportedly set to do battle for Club Brugge winger Andreas Skov Olsen after Rangers are said to have missed out on the player.

Belgian publication Voetbal Krant are claiming that the North London Premier League rivals are readying a transfer battle for the 23-year-old Danish international.

The report claims that Arsenal are the side currently leading the race for Andreas Skov Olsen, who Rangers fans will remember vividly from strong links almost two years ago.

The Gers were strongly linked with a move for Andreas Skov Olsen during his time with Serie A side Bologna and reports had even suggested the Gers launched a £5m bid in January 2022.

Leading Rangers fan media Heart & Hand would later rubbish the claims but the prominence of the reports mean the links remain fresh in the collective memory of supporters.

Arsenal leading hunt for Rangers-linked Andreas Skov Olsen

As things would transpire Andreas Skov Olsen would eventually move to Club Brugge in a £4.2m deal [Voetbal Krant] as the Belgian Pro League Champions’ financial clout told.

Having been regular features in the Champions League – in no small part down to new Rangers manager and former Brugge boss Philippe Clement – the Belgians were much better placed to complete a deal.

Interestingly, Philippe Clement had already left for Ligue 1 AS Monaco at the beginning of January 2022 before Andreas Skov Olsen would join Club Brugge later in the month.

Since then, the winger has gone on to impress in Belgium and in the Champions League, netting an impressive 25 goals and laying on 19 assists in 64 games.

This season, Andreas Skov Olsen has already banged in ten goals and laid on three assists in only 17 games and it’s little wonder the likes of Arsenal are expressing an interest.

Rangers would later go on to sign a loan deal for Manchester United talent Amad Diallo to fill the problem right-wing position but it didn’t exactly go to plan as the club collapsed in the title race under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

With Rangers yet to regain a foothold on the Premiership crown ever since, with the club also being beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League Final, it will have plenty thinking what if?

Arsenal will also be expected to cough up if their interest in Andreas Skov Olsen is legitimate and once again Rangers are left to rue a high profile target’s success elsewhere.
