Apparent Rangers transfer blow as multi-million reported target says he'd like to join Euro club

The Gers have been linked with Veerman – who is contracted to Eredivisie club Heerenveen until 2024 – for some time, and the Glasgow Times recently reported that they could be prepared to splash up to £7m on the 22-year-old.

A number of other clubs are also reportedly keen to snap him up, though.

Hellas Verona have reportedly pulled out of the race, a development which appeared to improve Rangers’ chances of success.

However, Dutch giants Feyenoord have now made contact with Heerenveen and Veerman has made it clear that he would be keen on a move to De Kuip.

“My management have received some kind of offer,” he said [ via Inside Futbol]. “I think they [Feyenoord] have asked Heerenveen how much they want for me.”

“So in the end I hear that they have not made an official offer with Heerenveen, but that they really want me.

“Yes, I would be a very happy man if I can go there. It could be a good step for me. I certainly think so.”

Veerman is a quality player who bagged seven goals and ten assists in the Eredivisie last season and he is only going to get better.

Many Rangers fans would love to see him come to Ibrox before the end of the current window, but it was suggested some time ago that he might prefer to remain in the Netherlands and these comments certainly seem to back up that thought.

With Ryan Jack not yet back from injury and Glen Kamara serving a UEFA club competition ban, the Gers look a little light in midfield ahead of their Champions League third qualifying round tie against Mälmo.

The opening Premiership fixture of the season went smoothly, though, and here are our Player Ratings from the comfortable triumph over Livingston.
