Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been perennially linked with a move out of Ibrox almost since he signed on the dotted line way back in 2017.
But four seasons and 94 goals later, the Colombian firebrand remains a Gers player, even if those exit links persist.
FC Porto – a team well familiar with the strengths of El Bufalo having conceded to him twice in the Europa League Group Stages of season 19/20 – are the latest name to be prominently linked.
Now, a report emerging from the player’s native Colombia claims that the player “does not think about leaving Rangers” with his focus squarely on the Champions League.
Antena 2+ are claiming that Alfie – who is currently in Brazil with the Colombian national team at the Copa America – wants to stay at Ibrox for a crack at the Champions League next season.
However, there is some confusion regarding the origins of these claims as the report names Football Insider and the British media as the source of their information.
This appears to originate from the suggestions of pundit Gabby Agbonlahor, who believes there is a chance that Morelos could remain at Rangers.
Agbonlahor has tipped Morelos to snub any interest from the Portuguese giant suggesting the striker may want to “finish” what he started at Rangers [Football Insider].
However – and before fans completely disregard the claims – the 4th Official claimed back in April that the striker “wants to stay” for a crack at the Champions League.
Reports in Portugal – namely from A Bola– suggested that Morelos was wanted as a replacement for striker Moussa Marega, who has joined Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
The story has taken a few twists and turns since then – not least via incorrect reports the player’s agent was in Portugal to discuss a move – with the latest coming out of Portugal suggesting a deal could be dead.
The suggestion is that reaching a personal agreement with Morelos and the player’s camp should be no issue but this asking price could prove a stumbling block.
According to A Bola, the situation is no longer “favourable” to Porto boss Sergio Conceição due to the Ibrox club’s asking price of at least £10m.
This report also claims that the Gers have turned down a £6.8m (€8m) for the striker from Serie A club Cagliari.
Whilst there is some conjecture over Alfredo Morelos leaving Rangers, one footballing wonderkid is the talk of the papers amid claims the Gers remain in the hunt for his signature.
