GhanaSoccerNet reports that Saudi Arabian giants Al-Hilal are lining up a move for Rangers-linked Trabzonspor striker Caleb Ekuban.

Rumours have suggested Gers interest in Ekuban since a Fotospor article named the 26-year-old as a possible replacement for Alfredo Morelos back in March.

Lazio were also credited with interest at the time and now it looks as though another big club are keen to enter the fray.

The GhanaSoccerNet report claims that highly decorated Saudi outfit, Al-Hilal, are willing to offer approximately £9 million and fellow striker Ömer-Al-Soma in a cash plus player deal.

Ekuban has been capped four times by Ghana at senior international level and counts both Chievo Verona and Leeds United amongst his former sides.

Verdict

Ekuban struggled to find the net during his brief stint in England but although he hasn’t been prolific since his permanent switch to Trabzonspor, he did score seven times in 20 appearances before the suspension of football, including a hat-trick against AEK Athens in Europa League qualifying.

The forward doesn’t have anywhere near the goalscoring returns of Morelos but it seems plenty of big clubs see something in him.

Transfers are clearly not the priority right now amid the global health crisis and Rangers are currently in the midst of a dispute with the SPFL over the latter’s attempts to end the Scottish season.

If Al-Hilal do weigh in with such a significant offer down the line, though, it’s difficult to see how the Gers will be able to compete financially.
