Alfredo Morelos is leaving Rangers this summer and the striker’s agent has admitted that there is ‘contact’ with Russian outfit Spartak Moscow.
With Sam Lammers through the door already and Cyriel Dessers potentially set to join him, no one could accuse Rangers of resting on their laurels after bidding farewell to a man who goes down in Ibrox folklore.
Alfredo Morelos’ final season in Glasgow might not be remembered with too much fondness but he still departs as the club’s all-time record goalscorer in European football. With 124 across six years – the Colombian hit double figures in every single one of his seasons at Rangers – the likes of Lammers and Dessers, reportedly on his way from Cremonese, certainly face an uphill battle as they aim to emulate his destructive, ‘Bufalo in a China shop’ impact on Scottish soil.

But where next for this hot-headed, card-happy, Europa League-dominating predator? Russia, perhaps?
“Yes, Spartak really contacted me about the transfer of Alfredo,” Morelos’ agent tells Sport24. “But I can’t say anything more.”
Alfredo Morelos could swap Rangers for Russia
Spartak Moscow, champions of Russia a record 22 times, finished third in the RPL last term. They scored 14 fewer goals than first-placed Zenit St Petersburg. The hope will be that Morelos can help bridge that gap at the top of the table.
A move to the Russian capital could see Morelos join forces with Quincy Promes, Victor Moses and former Lazio forward Keita Balde.
The likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest are reportedly keeping tabs on Morelos’ situation too. Guaranteed first-team opportunities at Goodison Park or the City Ground may be hard to come by, however. Presuming the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Taiwo Awoniyi can stay clear of injury.
“For the outlay to what we got back, Alfredo has made an outstanding contribution,” Rangers boss Mick Beale said last month when confirming the departure of a man who arrived as a total unknown from Finnish football back in 2017.
“He was the European top goalscorer. (Rangers’) player of the year last year.”
Beale has also bid farewell to Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield and Filip Helander. Ryan Kent, meanwhile, joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce this monht.
