Rangers told £4.2m ‘predator’ can score 20 goals if he signs for Beale

Cyriel Dessers ‘can score more than 20 goals’ if he seals his move to Rangers following Cremonese’s relegation from Serie A.

That is according to Sergio Porrini; the former Rangers, Juventus and Italy defender impressed by the striker’s performances since moving to Cremonese during the summer of 2022.

Dessers’ tally of six goals in Serie A is unlikely to have Gers fans counting down the seconds until his arrival is confirmed, but the Belgian-born Nigeria international has shown during prolific spells elsewhere that he can be a fearsome marksman when provided with regular service.

The sort of service he is more likely to find at Rangers than at a Cremonese side raging against the dying of the proverbial light at the wrong end of the table.

“If he is a first-choice striker for Rangers, he’ll score a lot,” Porrini tells the Scottish Express.

“Cyriel has big shoes to fill in Alfredo Morelos. It’s not easy to replace a player who has done so well, but I’m sure Cyriel can more than replace him. He’s the sort of player the fans will love. He’s played in a number of good leagues and scored goals. He’ll be confident in his ability.

“He can score more than 20 goals, I’m sure of that. Fifteen goals would be the first target. But, if he starts well, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him score more than 20.”

Rangers close in on Cyriel Dessers

Dessers broke the 20-goal barrier at Feyenoord in 2021/22; half of those goals coming in 13 UEFA Conference League matches as Arne Slot’s side reached the final. He also won the Eredivisie’s Golden Boot during his time at Heracles, and should not find chances hard to come by in a team boasting the creative talents of James Tavernier, Todd Cantwell, Borna Barisic, Kieran Dowell and co.

Dessers’ reputation for scoring big goals at big moments, meanwhile, should make him a fans’ favourite at Ibrox, Calciomercato reporting that Rangers are closing in on a deal which will set them back an initial £4.2 million.

“In fairness to Cyriel, he created a lot of chances for himself. He’s a predator,” Porrini adds.

“He is a good striker because he can link up outside the box, although his main strength is scoring goals.

“He is a goalscorer but also has good movement. You see him attacking the space and coming deep to run at defenders. His timing in and around the box is very good.”

Dessers is likely to be joined at Ibrox by another Italy-based centre-forward who made his name in the Netherlands. Rangers, The Herald say, are in talks to sign Atalanta misfit Sam Lammers too.
