Rangers hunt for more experience goes on with the transfer jungle drums going quiet in recent weeks.

Philippe Clement has a sizeable job on his hands to rebuild an imbalanced squad with Nils Koppen’s transfer policy setting out the direction that the club is hoping to go in.

The Gers boss knows that he needs quality and, looking at the wingers who started and finished against Standard Liege, that is the area that needs the most urgent attention.

Scott Wright is said to be close to a move to Sheffield Wednesday, which means all the options that are left will be inexperienced.

What he needs, is someone who has a proven track record of scoring goals and creating chances at a similar level.

Rangers given free run to sign Adama Traore

Adama Traore is one of the best players at Ferencvaros and talks were reported to be at an “advanced stage” to sign the 29-year old winger.

Big spending Fenerbahce were then linked with the £3.5m rated forward only for these rumours to be dismissed as having no substance.

Jose Mourinho has obviously set his sights higher and transfer supremo Fabrizio Romano has revealed something that could be good news for Rangers:

“Fenerbahçe agree deal to sign Allan Saint-Maximin on loan from Al Ahli, here we go! Deal in place for one season loan with salary to be reduced, verbal agreement in place waiting to check contracts. José Mourinho wanted ASM and he was able to convince the player.”

Experience is needed as Rangers look to add proven quality

Philippe Clement spoke recently about the new arrivals but that the transfer window won’t just be about signing promising youngsters:

“We were focused on everything, but it is easier earlier to get the young players in, but for the rest of the transfer window there will also be experience coming into the building and we need a good balance in the squad and in the team of both.

“It was important to find these young talents and I think we have found a few really exciting players for the future for this club.”

Mourinho could be doing Rangers a favour by going for Saint Maximin instead of Traore.

For a start, the Light Blues’ budget is likely to be significantly less than the legendary manager’s.

Traore is lightning quick, however, unlike Rabbi Matondo, he is also consistent.

With Oscar Cortes back and fully fit, Clement has one player who he knows that he can trust, what he needs now is someone for the other side who has been there and got the t-shirt.

The door has opened, all Nils Koppen has to do is walk through and put the cheque on the desk.
