Motherwell striker Kevin van Veen has moved to Dutch side FC Groningen amid much chatter surrounding a potential move to Rangers this summer.
The 32-year-old forward has been confirmed at the Dutch Eerste Divisie team as they look to bounce back into the Eredivisie at the first time of asking following their relegation this season.
According to Motherwell, who’re conveniently keeping the fee off the back pages, the club couldn’t reject the “significant” transfer fee involved in the move and Kevin van Veen couldn’t reject the wages on offer back in his homeland.
Motherwell have also sought to soften the blow by claiming that player trading is about ensuring the club is “financially stable over the medium and long term” [Motherwell].
This comes after manager Stuart Kettlewell had claimed no team in Scotland would be able to afford the Dutchman amid talk of a move to Rangers or Celtic which never materialised into any serious links.
Rangers tipped Kevin van Veen signs for Groningen
Kevin van Veen signs for Groningen off the back of 29 goals for the Steelmen last season, including 25 in the Scottish Premiership, as Rangers hunt to add more firepower ahead of next season.
Rangers were first mentioned alongside the forward by former Well manager Graeme Alexander, who merely claimed that the ex-Scunthorpe and Northampton Town striker could do a job for an Old Firm side.
It then had Kettlewell making big statements about transfer fees and demanding big money for the forward, who has just had the season of his life at Motherwell.

For the transfer to have been so earth-shatteringly significant that the Fir Park side haven’t made the figure public, and with scant reporting on how much the fee is expected to reach, we’ll just have to take their word for it.
As Kevin van Veen moves to Groiningen, Rangers continue their hunt for firepower ahead of the new season but there has reportedly been a major blow in a high-profile pursuit.
Talk of a deal for Cyriel Dessers collapsing would suggest that Rangers’ initially promising transfer window has now seen the club miss out on three main transfer targets.
