Rangers brought back Leon Balogun in the summer in a move that saw one injury prone veteran replace another when Filip Helander past him on the way out.

The big Swede had a torrid time at Ibrox and, aside from the title winning 2020/21 campaign, struggled to stay fit for various managers.

After signing for Odense, Rangers fans have been left bemused at Filip Helander reaching double figures already and playing again for his country, form that has seen an incredible price-tag placed on his head, via The Rangers Review.

Rangers exit sees Filip Helander find feet again

The 30-year old only signed a one-year contract after the Danes took a hopeful punt, but it now appears as if they are in no hurry to let him leave on the cheap.

Anderlecht are keen to take Filip Helander to the Juniper Pro League but, after seeing bids of £125,000 and £150,000 rejected, they might have to think again.

The fee being demanded by Odense isn’t a great deal in terms of modern football but for a player who has reached double figures in terms of appearances for the first time in three seasons and who is out of contract soon, it isn’t exactly cheap.

A round €1m, or £850,000 has been set and it seems unlikely that Anderlecht will go that high.

As a stop gap, Helander is probably seen as a safe, and cheap, pair of hands but you wouldn’t want to build your defence around him given his issues over the last five years.

There has never been any doubting his quality and, after this season, if he stays fit for the rest of the campaign, he will probably have a few more offers on the table.

As he has said recently, he’s not going to be picky given how reluctant some teams might be to touch a player with his profile.

Someone, as Anderlecht and Odense prove though, will always take a gamble on a defender as good as Helander.
