Steven Gerrard knows a thing or two about football. By now, he also knows a thing or two about Alfredo Morelos. I don’t think you’ll find many who would argue with that.
After Rangers fan favourite and star striker Alredo Morelos was subject to reported interest from Bordeaux, Gerrard’s made a statement about just how big a player he is.
“If we sell a good player then we’ll have to go in to the transfer market and pay more than these bids to replace him. So it doesn’t make sense to me to accept a bid at that level.
To accept bit like that for Alfredo, I’m probably going to have to spend treble that amount for a replacement to score goals like him.”
With the reported bid being £3.75m – a figure Gerrard also described as derisory – the cost of a replacement comes in at £11.25m. A hefty fee.
Is this the price that Gerrard would be willing to let the young Colombian go for?
Morelos was the subject of reported interest to the tune of £11m last January. It seems that it is around this figure that the Ibrox club value Morelos.
Gerrard is not in any rush to see him go either. He recently discussed the potential of offering the striker a new contract, something which would put transfer speculation to bed. Tying Morelos down on improved terms is good for all parties involved. Especially considering El Bufalo is only 22 years old.
That’s just it. One way or another the transfer speculation will come to a head. Unless Bordeaux stump up, it sounds like Rangers won’t even listen to them.
