Ex-England striker Jermain Defoe has said he’s keeping his options open come January, but will Rangers be alerted to his availability?
The English Premier League legend, 36, has only played four times in the Premier League for Bournemouth this season.
Rangers have lacked strength in depth and experience up front and Defoe might offer the perfect balance. Skillful, deadly and still fighting fit, he could be a solid addition at Ibrox.
Speaking to the Mirror and as quoted on Nottinghamshire Live, Defoe said:
“We’ll see what happens. At the end of the day I’m a footballer and I like playing football.
“I’m not playing football at the minute so we’ll see what happens.”
Will that be at Rangers? He would certainly pose an interesting addition. Being under contract at the Vitality until 2020 may also be a stumbling block. But by handing him a three year contract last year, it clearly shows that Eddie Howe thinks he’s still in superb condition.
Defoe also sits 7th in the all time Premier League top scorer list with 162 goals.
Whatever happens, it seems like there’s going to be plenty of transfer action at Ibrox in January.
