Talented youth player Harris O’Connor, who was released by Rangers earlier this summer, could soon be snapped up by Hibernian, according to the Daily Record.

The former Charlton and Kilmarnock youth joined the Gers in 2018 and initially impressed at age-group level.

However, after a tough loan spell at Brechin City during the second half of last season and with the likes of Leon King and Lewis Mayo ahead of him in the pecking order, the club opted against handing him a contract extension.

He’s since been on trial at English Premier League club Burnley and EFL Championship sides Stoke City and Sheffield United.

However, while he’s said to still be waiting on final verdicts from the English clubs, the Daily Record reports that his future could yet be in Scotland.

That’s as he’s currently training with Hibernian and has been given the opportunity to win a deal.

It’s said that the Hibees are keen to strengthen defensively and that manager Jack Ross will be assessing O’Connor for the remainder of this week.

Things didn’t quite work out for him at Ibrox, but while an offer from Premier League Burnley could still arrive, a move to a club of Hibs’ size wouldn’t be a bad result for the teenager after a summer of uncertainty.

Many of the ten players released in June have already secured new clubs, but a player given his first-team debut last season by Steven Gerrard remains a free agent.
