Photoshopped images of Scottish Premiership referee Steven McLean smiling at Rangers players have caught out furious rivals desperate to cry conspiracy.

Cheeky Gers fans doctored images of the whistler to make it look like he was smiling behind Alfredo Morelos in order to wind up Celtic supporters in particular.

Many of the Parkhead club’s fans can’t resist crying conspiracy when Rangers get positive refereeing decisions and plenty were out in force following a penalty award against St Mirren.

Rangers endured a difficult opening 20 minutes against the Buddies in Paisley and found themselves 1-0 down courtesy of a Conor Ronan wonder strike.

But the Gers would fight their way back into the match and earned an undisputable penalty when Alan Power rushed into a challenge with Ianis Hagi inside the box.

Kemar Roofe duly dispatched the spot kick before Alfredo Morelos turned the game on its head with his 100th Rangers goal only a minute later.

The Gers would go on to win 2-1 and there are plenty of rival fans bemoaning the referees decision-making come the final whistle.

But we would just like to clarify that images of Steven McLean seemingly smiling with Gers players have been photoshopped.

Even if plenty of rival fans have fell for them online in a hilarious turn of events:

 

There is honestly nothing that can be done – stopping short of banning Rangers from penalties – that would pacify this mania.

No matter how much these guys want some kind of refereeing conspiracy to be true, it won’t make it so.

League leaders Rangers are the Champions and – if these guys are really honest – that’s what winds them up the most!

Meanwhile, as Rangers went three points clear in the Scottish Premiership Ibrox supporters have been doffing their cap to a Gers star who reached a major milestone in the match.
