Rangers’ weekend clash with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership has been brought forward by a day to give the club the best opportunity to prepare for their Europa League semi-final.
The Gers will travel to Germany next Thursday (28th April) to face RB Leipzig in the first leg of the clash before the talented Bundesliga outfit travel to Glasgow one week later.
In order for the club to prepare properly the SPFL, Rangers and Motherwell have agreed to move this weekend’s Fir Park clash back one day to Saturday 23rd April.
The game will also kick off at 12pm and will give Rangers an extra day to prepare for what should be a monumental Europa League clash.
The club took to their official website to thank the key stakeholders in the decision, including the SPFL, with whom the club do not always see eye-to-eye.
“This weekend’s Scottish Premiership match with Motherwell at Fir Park has been brought forward 24 hours to 12 noon on Saturday,” reads a club statement.
“Following Rangers’ progression to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League, the Light Blues had asked for additional time to prepare for the first-leg with RB Leipzig, with that request now granted.
“Rangers would like to put on record their thanks to Motherwell FC, the SPFL, Sky Sports and Police Scotland for agreeing to the change of date.”
Rangers clash with Motherwell moved forward
Rangers continue to compete on three fronts this season and the match with Motherwell is a must-win if the club harbour any ambitions in the Scottish Premiership this season.
The Gers are six points behind their greatest rivals Celtic heading into the final five matches and need some help from other sides in the Premiership if they’re to lift the title.
The club are also competing in the Europa League and over the weekend booked a place in the Scottish Cup Final after defeating Old Firm rivals Celtic at Hampden.
The fall-out from that game has been monumental with a deliciously salty meltdown from an ex-Celtic player a genuine embarrassment.
