Postecoglou channels inner Celtic dad in Rangers Helicopter Sunday jibe

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou once again channeled his inner Parkhead dad to make a Rangers Helicopter Sunday quip as his side close in on the league title.

The Parkhead side are all but mathematically Scottish Champions and Rangers must take responsibility for overseeing a 12 point swing in the title race post Christmas.

The Gers dallied in the transfer market and in the title race whilst Celtic found their feet and form and over the piece, probably deserve the trophy.

If Rangers drop points to Aberdeen, Dundee United, Motherwell and Ross County in the manner they did they don’t deserve the title and Celtic have earned the crown.

But despite this all the attention is laser focused on Rangers whose trip to the Europa League Final has left Ange Postecoglou resorting to cheeky soundbites in an attempt to stay relevant.

The reality is that Rangers are now the story of the campaign as the club’s trip to Seville hurts Celtic deeper than they’ll ever care to admit.

Go on and win it, and any title win becomes an afterthought in a legendary campaign for Scottish football.

Ange Postecoglou in indirect Rangers quip as Celtic’s season overshadowed

The truth is opportunities like the Europa League don’t come around often whilst Rangers and Celtic will likely compete for the title year in and year out.

It will always fluctuate between the two Glasgow clubs – that’s reality – but the notion of Europa League glory has Rangers fans forgiving their squad and moving on very quickly from Celtic’s title win.

Not to mention the fact that in the grander scope of Scottish Premiership titles, we won the title that truly mattered most whilst Celtic choked.

Adopting the role of every Celtic fan over 40 years old, Ange Postecoglou very much sounds the part and appeared to poke fun at Helicopter Sunday in an interview with Sky Sports.

Rangers famously clinched the title in the last few minutes of the 04/05 season when Scott McDonald’s double downed Celtic at Fir Park and the rest is history.

“I mean, there’s this helicopter thing here in Scotland everyone tells me I should be worried about,” said Postecoglou.

“But ultimately we know we’re in a great position and it’s in our hands.

“There’s nothing in the way we’re playing our football or the way we’re approaching games or training that says to me I need to refocus or anything like that.

“We said after the game at the weekend that we can go through this finish line in many different ways.

“What we want to do is play our best football and that’s what we’re going to try and do on Wednesday.”

As Rangers steal the limelight and Celtic’s victorious league campaign titters out, their fans more focused on how we do next Wednesday night, it’s not the first time Ange has tried to be cheeky either.

The Parkhead boss couldn’t resist mentioning Celtic’s European Cup win over 50 years ago when asked about Rangers’ run to Seville.
