I don’t normally like to repeat myself but this has been such a touchy subject it needs addressing. The last six weeks in our search for a manager has been nothing short of calamitous and embarrassing, it’s been a media shit show and just highlights how incompetent and underprepared the board have been in current times. The pursuit of Derek McInnes has taken us to a new era of the banter years and people are understandably pissed off at how amateurish the whole process has been.
With so many variations of Derek’s reason for turning down the managerial position one thing can be certain, he will never get the chance again and that will haunt him for the rest of his career but let’s be honest, can you really blame him for not wanting to work under the current regime? The certainly don’t portray any sort of direction nor fill you with any confidence, so I understand it to a certain degree.
Many saying and I quote “he shat it” certainly fits the boards summary of his U-turn and it’s hard to believe he didn’t know what was expected of him at the club. He recently came out and said he didn’t want to tarnish all the good work he’s done with Aberdeen and felt he had unfinished business with the Dons which is fair enough but is that a good enough reason to turn down the job at Rangers? Absolutely no chance, not for one minute do I believe he turned down Rangers for any allegiance he had with Aberdeen and the chairman Stewart Milne, I’m calling bullshit on that.
If it wasn’t bad enough he turned down the job, the club then released one of the most embarrassing statements I’ve even seen penned. Jim Traynor is in charge of PR at Rangers and he’s doing a shameful attempt at his job; his childish and sly digs constantly undermine his role and it makes the club look bitter and foolish. I believe his position was questioned at the recent AGM and the chairman proclaimed he was doing a fine job, well he must be the only person in the whole of the country if he believes big Jim is doing an adequate job.
So, our hunt for a manger will rumble on into the new year after Murty was placed under control until then, personally I don’t have an issue with him being in charge, its more to do with the situation and how it’s being portrayed in the media frenzy. Murty has some difficult games ahead with St Johnston, Motherwell and Celtic and I really do feel for the guy. He’s been chucked in at the deep end but so far has made a good account of himself given the circumstances, let’s hope he continue to help the club until a permanent manager is found.
