Rangers transfers revisited as success rate soars, who did Beale get right?

According to Paul Tomkins who devised the Transfer Price Index Coefficient, only 40% of transfers are successful, which puts Rangers summer business into perspective.

What also plays a part is the manager, Gers boss Philippe Clement has shown that it isn’t always just down to the player after showing, with the same squad, what is achievable.

The transfers made by Michael Beale for Rangers have been under scrutiny since the start of the season but were we too quick to write some of the players off?

Were the summer transfers for Rangers all that bad?

Rangers have played over 40 games now this season so, it is fair to say that those who have arrived have had plenty of time to settle.

Rather than looking at each player individually, all we have to look at is, who has been a success?

These are the players that I think – for different reasons – can now be classed as playing an important role under Clement:

Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Cyriel Dessers, Abdallah Sima, Leon Balogun and Danilo.

Which leaves these players with question marks over their heads:

Sam Lammers, Jose Cifuentes and Kieran Dowell.

You could argue that the fee paid for Dessers was excessive but, you can’t argue against the numbers that he has posted since Philippe Clement was appointed.

It’s the same situation for Sterling and Balogun too, both had rarely been seen under Beale and yet have played vital roles under the new manager.

Sterling could go on to make us a small fortune in the future thanks to the gaffer spotting that he has the skillset to play in midfield.

Danilo has been incredibly unlucky, the two injuries that he has suffered have been freak accidents but he has shown enough quality to suggest that he can be a 25 goal a season striker.

The thing with Cifuentes and Dowell’s transfers is that Rangers acquired them on the cheap due to their respective contract statuses and, if they both leave, we shouldn’t be out of pocket.

That’s a success rate of over 65% by my maths.

Even if you want to be picky and take out someone like Dessers or, don’t think you’ve seen enough of Danilo, we are still over 40% in terms of strike rate.

With every week, it’s looking like Michael Beale did have to tools needed to get the job done, he just didn’t know how to use them.
