Ross Wilson returning to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest has certainly got the tongues wagging amongst the Rangers support.

It would have been a surprise to see Ross Wilson opt for penny pinching over a near bottomless pit when it comes to finances and choosing to keep facing the daily criticism that he has been subjected to.

The 39-year old has built up a solid reputation between spells at Huddersfield Town, Southampton and Rangers but for all that his professional image seems intact, perception around G51 is less than impressive.

There is never a dull day as a Rangers supporter and what fans made of the Ross Wilson to Forest move has produced some interesting reading over the last 24 hours as it played out on social media.

Key figures in the Rangers support were obviously quick to respond when the news first broke with Heart and Hand attempting to pour cold water on a story broken by what looked like a spoof social media account, only to have to back track just hours later.

Stevie Clifford from Four Lads Had a Dream was more obvious with his opinion and it’s safe to say that I don’t think the Rangers blogger will miss Wilson now that he is gone – a frosty reception awaits behind the doors of Ibrox if they ever meet again though.

This is Ibrox took a more impassioned approach with managing editor Tommy McIntye assessing how this might affect the structure of the club and the hierarchy moving forwards – a cool head in all the madness.

The recent protests aimed at Ross Wilson will surely have influenced his decision, after all, he isn’t stupid and will be fully aware of what the current opinion was of his performance at Rangers, regardless of his popularity with board members and investors.

Whether or not he cares is another matter.

The Premier League is the place to be for players and we saw with Steven Gerrard when he was poached by Aston Villa that it is a lure that is hard to resist and few will blame him for jumping ship.

Wilson obviously decided that he had had enough of fans that have long since judged him as not being fit for purpose.
