Five Rangers players Philippe Clement should sell if he wants to keep his job

Philippe Clement inherited a mess when he took over as Rangers manager and made a rod for his own back winning silverware and guiding his team to the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The club as a whole is a mess given the Ibrox farce in the summer added to the number of executive roles that need to be filled

The manager had to rebuild his squad, but the Kilmarnock defeat highlighted once again the players who need to be moved on for Rangers to be able to progress.

Five players Rangers should sell to give Philippe Clement a chance

With his team drawing a blank, Clement must have been a frustrated figure when he turned round and looked at his bench.

No pace, no creativity and no goals, other than the inexperienced Hamza Igamane.

The situation from the summer hasn’t changed and this is who Rangers need to sell next to raise funds and clear space for new additions.

Cyriel Dessers

Cyriel Dessers was almost carrying Rangers at the start of the season.

He was on a goal or an assist every 90 minutes and looked like he could be trusted to lead the line.

With no goals or assists in his last five games, not only is he not contributing when it matters, his level of performance has also nose-dived and he continues to be more of a hindrance than a help.

The best example being the three v two counter-attack against Kilmarnock that saw him ignore an easy ball to Nedim Bajrami and instead give it away trying to split two defenders to play in Mohamed Diomande.

Kieran Dowell

Kieran Dowell was a strange signing by Michael Beale when he arrived last summer

Not a number 10 or a winger and with a poor injury history, it seemed like the former boss was taking a punt because Dowell had been a promising youngster.

He might not be a top earner, but Dowell is still on enough money to be blocking more suitable signings at eight and 10.

Nicolas Raskin

As a player, he doesn’t do much wrong, however, if Nicolas Raskin isn’t going to be first choice, Rangers should sell him to bring in a more experienced number six, one that can mentor Connor Barron.

Rabbi Matondo

Clement didn’t have any wingers other than a half-fit Ross McCausland on the bench against Kilmarnock and Rabbi Matondo’s inability to stay fit doesn’t help.

A young, dynamic, pacey winger with the ability to chip in with numbers and be available has to be a January priority, hopefully, Matondo can stay fit enough until then to tempt potential suitors.

Tom Lawrence

Tom Lawrence isn’t as much of a problem, but only because he is out of contract at the end of the season.

His goals have been crucial this season, however, like Dessers, he can go through games without having any influence.

As a number 10, he should be Rangers creator in chief.

With no CEO or sporting director, Nils Koppen is going to be a busy man over the next couple of months.
