The Japan international is currently a free agent, having left Ajax after playing just nine games for the club.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is now training at Crystal Palace
The Light Blues are unlikely to sign the 27-year-old this summer as he is currently training at Premier League outfit Crystal Palace, according to The Athletic.
As he is not contracted to any club, he is allowed to train with whoever he wants, and that is the norm with a lot of free agents.
He will also be playing a friendly for the London club over the coming days, giving the coaching staff a chance to assess whether or not he’s the right fit.

Rangers’ hopes to sign Tomiyasu are expected to be dashed if Palace approve of his quality and fitness levels.
While there are clubs in Europe keen on signing the Japan international, he fancies a move to the Premier League this summer.
There have been issues about his fitness as he has featured sparingly since his knee surgery in February 2025.

With James Tavernier departing, there is a void of quality in the right-back position.
While Ross McCrorie has been signed, he is not expected to offer the same kind of attacking threat as Tavernier.

Tomiyasu is not just a right-back, as he’s capable of doing well as a centre-back as well as a left-back.
Add to that, he has the experience of playing in the Premier League and the World Cup, and would have been a good fit inside the dressing room.
