The Rangers squad faces a summer of uncertainty as the Ibrox club brace for a takeover and a new manager walks into the doors at Auchenhowie.
After the 2-2 draw with Hibs, the Rangers team will now go on a summer break until June 23rd, returning to a new manager, sporting director and US ownership model.
With sporting director Kevin Thelwell to join from Everton and manager hopeful Davide Ancelotti potentially set to join Rangers from Real Madrid, things will look very different at Ibrox next month.
But just how will the upcoming changes impact the Rangers squad in the weeks ahead?
Rangers News gives their verdict on Rangers’ bumper 36-man squad and who should be kept around for the American revolution, and who should be given the boot.

Jack Butland
Jack Butland was Rangers Player of the Year in 23/24 but turned into a huge source of the club’s problems with a string of goalkeeping errors this season.
- Age: 32
- Wage: £25k per week, £1.3m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: England 🏴/NO
- Contract expires: 2027
- Market valuation: £2.5m
- Verdict: 🟠 – Butland is a high earner and may be difficult to shift. The goalkeeper is also clearly talented and could have a point to prove next season. If Rangers can source permanent interest, then it may be wise to move Jack on and free up the wage bill.
Liam Kelly
Deputised for Jack Butland when things turned sour but jury is still out on the effectiveness of Liam Kelly as Rangers number one.
- Age: 29
- Wage: £5k per week, £260k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Scotland 🏴/YES
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £670k
- Verdict: 🔵 – Kelly is homegrown and a suitable number two. Barry Ferguson reckons he will dovetail with Butland for the number one jersey but Rangers need better if they’re to go to the next level.
Mason Munn
Mason Munn made his Rangers debut in the 5-0 Scottish Cup demolition of Fraserburgh and big things are expected of the teenage goalkeeper.
- Age: 19
- Wage: N/A
- Nationality/homegrown: Northern Ireland 🇬🇧/YES
- Contract expires: 2028
- Market valuation: N/A
- Verdict: 🔵 – Munn is waiting in the wings for his opportunity and will be retained as Rangers look to continue his development.
James Tavernier
Rangers captain James Tavernier is set for an Ibrox testimonial but there are big questions over whether or not the skipper should be retained for another season.
- Age: 33
- Wage: £30k per week, £1.56m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: England 🏴/NO
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £2.5m
- Verdict: 🟠 – At a time of immense upheaval, Tavernier threatens to be one of the only constants at the club. The skipper can provide some consistency in the dressing room but at the same time, it’s under the right-back’s watch the team has taken a slide. Tav is on big wages too. This is a huge call for the next manager.
Dujon Sterling
Dujon Sterling has seen his second season at Rangers destroyed by injury but there remains big hopes the ex-Chelsea kid can be a key player.
- Age: 25
- Wage: £22k per week, £1.1m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: England 🏴/NO
- Contract expires: 2027
- Market valuation: £3.4m
- Verdict: 🔵 – Dujon Sterling is recovering from an Achilles injury and is unlikely to be part of the Ibrox cull as a result. Rangers have missed the versatile defender’s physicality and if the club can get Dujon consistently fit, then he will be an asset.
Ridvan Yilmaz
Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz has had an Ibrox career disrupted by injury but has he done enough to really grab his chances at Rangers?
- Age: 23
- Wage: £12k per week, £624k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Turkey 🇹🇷/NO
- Contract expires: 2027
- Market valuation: £3.4m
- Verdict: 🔴 – Signed on a £5m deal in 2022, Rangers have only ever seen flashes of Ridvan’s quality and it’s time to cash in or risk another season of injury problems and inconsistency.
Jefte
Brazilian left-back Jefte has played more than expected this season and people often forget Jefte is only 21-years-old.
- Age: 21
- Wage: £8.1k per week, £421k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Brazil 🇧🇷/NO
- Contract expires: 2028
- Market valuation: £3.4m
- Verdict: 🔵 – Jefte is a player of fairly high potential but Rangers need to see more attacking impetus from the youngster. A new starting left-back is required, but Jefte is a project that shouldn’t be ditched just yet.
Leon Balogun
Leon Balogun wants a new Rangers deal but the Nigerian international defender stands on the verge of being released for a second time at Ibrox.
- Age: 36
- Wage: £8k per week, £416k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Nigeria 🇳🇬/NO
- Contract expires: 2025
- Market valuation: £125k
- Verdict: 🟠 – Balogun’s hopes of a new deal are consistently dashed by the defender’s injury problems, but the centre-back’s role at Rangers is about more than being on the park. The centre-back is an astute, erudite and mature dressing room leader and the club need to balance this with competition in the squad. The signs are ominous.
John Souttar
John Souttar is about to enter the final year of his contract at Rangers but has suggested he is willing to sign a new deal if the club want him to stick around.
- Age: 28
- Wage: £8.1k per week, £421k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Scotland 🏴/YES
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £3.8m
- Verdict: 🔵 – Souttar is a homegrown hero and one of Rangers’ most consistent performers, even if there are deficiencies in the centre-back’s game. John is prone to a high-profile mistake, whilst injury issues continue to plague the defender’s career. Needs support, but is a shoo-in for a new contract.
Robin Propper
Robin Propper has had a disastrous first season at Rangers and the Dutch centre-back’s future hangs in the balance ahead of a new era at Ibrox.
- Age: 31
- Wage: £9k per week, £468k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Netherlands 🇳🇱/NO
- Contract expires: N/A
- Market valuation: £2.1m
- Verdict: 🔴 – Robin Propper’s confidence has been so shot by St Mirren’s Toyosi Olusanya that we’ll book him the flight back to Holland ourselves.
Clinton Nsiala
Clinton Nsiala made his professional breakthrough at Rangers this season and whilst the Frenchman is still raw, there has been progress.
- Age: 21
- Wage: N/A
- Nationality/homegrown: French 🇫🇷/NO
- Contract expires: N/A
- Market valuation: £170k
- Verdict: 🔵 – AC Milan academy graduate Nsiala has big potential and Rangers will hope to continue his development next season.
Rafael Fernandes
Rafael Fernandes signed on loan from Lille in January and has barely kicked a ball for Rangers this season.
- Age: 22
- Wage: £2.7k per week, £140k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Portugal 🇵🇹/NO
- Contract expires: 2025
- Market valuation: £840k
- Verdict: 🔴 – Rangers have a £2.7m option to buy on Fernandes and Nils Koppen would score an almighty own goal by activating with existing deals under the spotlight.
Leon King
Leon King was once the next big thing in the Rangers academy but in recent seasons the defender has faded into the background at Ibrox.
- Age: 21
- Wage: £8k per week, £416k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Scotland 🏴/NO
- Contract expires: N/A
- Market valuation: £670k
- Verdict: 🟠 – Chances will be at a premium for Leon King at Rangers next season and it could be time for the defender to kickstart his career after a challenging few years. A big decision awaits with King still highly-rated by Rangers.
Ben Davies
Ben Davies was supposed to be the ying to Connor Goldson’s yang. Instead he’s been more like a Preston North End version of Robin Propper.
- Age: 29
- Wage: £27k per week, £1.4m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: England 🏴/NO
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £2.1m
- Verdict: 🔴 – A star in Birmingham City’s League One winning side, Rangers will cash in on Davies this summer with the centre-back not suited to the rigours of Scottish football.
Robbie Fraser
Robbie Fraser broke through under Philippe Clement and has impressed in the Scottish Championship with Livingston.
- Age: 22
- Wage: N/A
- Nationality/homegrown: Scotland 🏴/YES
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £85k
- Verdict: 🟠 – Fraser has talent and will be given the chance to impress in pre-season, but a loan exit could beckon later in the window.
Adam Devine
Adam Devine is another like Leon King who made the breakthrough at Rangers but has struggled to keep his place in the squad.
- Age: 22
- Wage: £2.5k per week, £130k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown:
- Contract expires: 2025
- Market valuation: £210k
- Verdict: 🔴 – Time for Adam to go and find a home in football and kickstart his career.
Neraysho Kasanwirjo
Neraysho Kasanwirjo was signed on loan from Feyenoord under Philippe Clement and has only just returned to the Rangers team after sustaining a serious injury in November 2024.
- Age: 23
- Wage: £3.9k per week, £203k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Netherlands 🇳🇱/NO
- Contract expires: 2025
- Market valuation: £1.5m
- Verdict: 🟠 – Nils Koppen faces a big decision with Neraysho Kasanwirjo, who has impressed at Rangers but has also spent the bulk of his time at the club injured. Highly-rated, but can Rangers keep him fit?
Connor Barron
Connor Barron both started and ended his first season at Rangers positively, with some indifferent form in between since moving to Ibrox from Aberdeen.
- Age: 22
- Wage: £5.4k per week, £281k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Scotland 🏴/YES
- Contract expires: 2028
- Market valuation: £2.1m
- Verdict: 🔵 – Impressed enough to earn a chance next season but there are areas of improvement that must be made in Barron’s game, specifically with the ball.
Mohamed Diomande
Mohamed Diomande is one of Rangers’ brightest talents and will be a crucial player for the club as they head off in a new direction.
- Age: 23
- Wage: £12k per week, £626k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Ivory Coast 🇨🇮/NO
- Contract expires: 2028
- Market valuation: £5.9m
- Verdict: 🔵 – Diomande’s quality is evident but the all-action midfielder will boost his profile by adding more goals and assists to his game. Huge player for Rangers going forward.
Nicolas Raskin
Nicolas Raskin has been amongst Rangers’ top performers this season and is another crucial player who the incoming manager will hope to build the team around.
- Age: 24
- Wage: £19k per week, £988k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Belgium 🇧🇪/NO
- Contract expires: 2027
- Market valuation: £5.5m
- Verdict: 🔵 – Raskin broke through into the Belgium team this season and the midfielder is adding goals, assists and impetus at Rangers. A new contract is a must.
Ianis Hagi
Ianis Hagi had to bide his time for an opportunity at Rangers this season but with his contract set to expire, the Romanian’s future hangs in the balance.
- Age: 26
- Wage: £21k per week, £1.1m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Romania 🇷🇴/NO
- Contract expires: 2025
- Market valuation: £1.7m
- Verdict: 🔴 – Hagi might be a popular player amongst Rangers fans, but the midfielder’s wage demands and returns raise big questions about a new contract. It feels like the natural moment to part ways.
Kieran Dowell
Kieran Dowell never settled at Rangers and the midfielder goes down as amongst Michael Beale’s worst signings.
- Age: 27
- Wage: £16k per week, £832k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: England 🏴/NO
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £840k
- Verdict: 🔴 – Dowell has impressed on loan at Birmingham City and is nailed on to leave Rangers this summer.
Bailey Rice
Bailey Rice is amongst the most talented young players in Scottish football and big things are expected of the teenager at Rangers.
- Age: 18
- Wage: £3.5k per week, £182k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Scotland 🏴/YES
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £420k
- Verdict: 🔵 – Rice is set to play a gradually bigger role at Rangers in the seasons to come with next season a crucial one in the kid’s development.
Nedim Bajrami
Nedim Bajrami arrived at Rangers on transfer deadline day in the summer but the Albanian has struggled to convince fans of the £3.4m outlay for his services.
- Age: 26
- Wage: £12k per week, £626k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Albania 🇦🇱/NO
- Contract expires: 2028
- Market valuation: £3.4m
- Verdict: 🟠 – Rangers might be tempted to ship Bajrami out if they can get their money back but if the midfielder is to stay, the next campaign will be a make-or-break season for him at Ibrox.
Jose Cifuentes
Jose Cifuentes couldn’t get out of Scotland quick enough when he joined Rangers back in 2023 and since then he’s had loan spells in Brazil and Greece.
- Age: 26
- Wage: £16k per week, £832k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Ecuador 🇪🇨/NO
- Contract expires: 2027
- Market valuation: £5m
- Verdict: 🔴 – An expensive signing who has failed to deliver, Cifuentes might be a good player somewhere else but Kevin Thelwell must ship him out permanently this summer.
Cole McKinnon
Cole McKinnon is another of the Rangers youngsters who has always found themselves on the periphery at Ibrox.
- Age: 22
- Wage: £1.4k per week, £73k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Scotland 🏴/YES
- Contract expires: 2025
- Market valuation: £170k
- Verdict: 🔴 – There’s an argument that McKinnon needs to find himself a more permanent home and with the midfielder out of contract, an exit beckons.
Paul Nsio
Paul Nsio made his breakthrough into the Rangers first team this season and the young midfielder has been a stand-out at youth level for the Gers.
- Age: 19
- Wage: N/A
- Nationality/homegrown: England 🏴/YES
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £85k
- Verdict: 🔵 – Can Paul Nsio go to the next level and compete for a place at Rangers next season?
Tom Lawrence
Tom Lawrence arrived at Rangers to much hype back in 2022 but this summer will likely spell the end of what’s been an injury-ravaged three year nightmare in Glasgow.
- Age: 31
- Wage: £22k per week, £1.1m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Wales 🏴/NO
- Contract expires: 2025
- Market valuation: £1.7m
- Verdict: 🔴 – Lawrence has shown he has quality but a lack of consistency or availability means that this summer will almost certainly see a parting of the ways.
Rabbi Matondo
Rabbi Matondo is another who arrived in that ill-fated Ross Wilson summer window of 2022 and injuries have badly interrupted a disappointing three years at Ibrox.
- Age: 24
- Wage: £23k per week, £1.2m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Wales 🏴/NO
- Contract expires: 2026
- Market valuation: £1.7m
- Verdict: 🔴 – Matondo might be returning to Rangers from a loan at Hannover 96 this season but Rangers cannot rely on the kid and an exit beckons.
Ross McCausland

- Nationality/homegrown: Northern Ireland 🇬🇧/YES
- Contract expires: 2027

- Wage: N/A
- Nationality/homegrown: Scotland 🏴/YES

- Market valuation: £85k
- Verdict: 🔵 – Has it all to do to break through into the Rangers first-team, but will get his chance in pre-season.

- Nationality/homegrown: Czechia 🇨🇿/NO
- Contract expires: 2025

- Age: 21
- Wage: £6k per week, £312k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Colombia 🇨🇴/NO
- Contract expires: 2029
- Market valuation: £3m
- Verdict: 🟠 – Rangers are forking out for Cortes so the incoming manager has a responsibility to get the best out of him, but if there are opportunities to recoup the fee then Rangers should take them.
Hamza Igamane
Hamza Igamane was a rare bright spark in a season of disappointment at Rangers but there are plenty swirling as transfer interest in his services rise.
- Age: 22
- Wage: £7.2k per week, £374k per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Morocco 🇲🇦/NO

- Age: 26
- Wage: £26k per week, £1.35m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Brazil 🇧🇷/NO
- Contract expires: 2028
- Market valuation: £3.4m
- Verdict: 🟠 – Danilo has everything to prove at Rangers but if there are interested parties in the striker, perhaps cashing in would be in the best interests of everyone involved.
Cyriel Dessers
Cyriel Dessers finished the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer this season with 18 goals and insists he has unfinished business at Ibrox.
- Age: 30
- Wage: £27k per week, £1.4m per annum
- Nationality/homegrown: Nigeria 🇳🇬/NO
- Contract expires: 2027
