Rangers aimed big when they targeted Davide Ancelotti to be their next manager with the Real Madrid assistant expected to step out from under his dad’s sizeable shadow.
With Carlo moving to take charge of Brazil and Paul Clement joining him, it looked like Davide was set to put into practice everything he had learned during an extensive apprenticeship.
Rangers held “positive” talks with Ancelotti, and it looked like it was only a matter of time before the Spaniard would be appointed after Madrid’s season ends.
According to Alberto Pereiro of Ondo Cero, a Spanish news outlet, Ancelotti Jnr is going nowhere, an opinion rebuked by The Rangers Review’s Chris Jack who has claimed that he is “still in the running”.

That isn’t strictly true though, because Ancelotti is also heading to Brazil, for now:
“Carlo and Davide have NOT parted ways yet…” claimed Pereiro.
“Davide has decided to postpone his career as a head coach and will accompany his father to Brazil until the 26 World Cup.
“Furthermore, Carlo will not live in Madrid or London, he is moving to Brazil from now on.”
Rangers are reported to have drawn up an extensive list of names that still includes Steven Gerrard, Russell Martin, Marco Rose and Danny Rohl, but it was Ancelotti’s name that emerged at the front of the queue, and it would still appear to be there.
Will squad rebuild have to wait for a new Rangers manager?
It is an appointment that sporting director Kevin Thelwell and Gretar Steinsson have to get right.
Both have an extensive knowledge of the manager market and who ticks what boxes in terms of coaching style and also of playing philosophy.
If Ancelotti has changed his mind about becoming a manager or head coach, it shouldn’t affect Rangers’ recruitment.
The Rangers squad needs a lot of attention and it will be Thelwell and Nils Koppen who will be doing most of the donkey work.
