Young Rangers side win opening game of prestigious ALKASS Cup

A young Rangers side began the club’s defence of the ALKASS Cup with an injury-time winner against Samsung Suwon of Korea [Rangers].

The Ibrox side came from behind twice to secure the victory, culminating in a last-minute strike from Charlie Lindsay to win the game 3-2.

The result means Rangers are in prime position to qualify from their group at the prestigious youth tournament, with a match against Qatari side Aspire Academy to come.

Charlie Lindsay also stole the show in Qatar, earning a man of the match award on top of his match-winning injury-time strike.

The Northern Irish youngster became the youngest player to feature for Glentoran when he turned out as a 15-year-old for the Belfast club.

Brian Gilmour’s young Gers have a growing affinity for this competition and after winning the trophy last season, the club will be hoping to repeat the feat this time around.

This Rangers squad is made up of 2004, 2005 and one 2006-born players and will need to beat off equivalent sides from some of the best academies in Europe.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG are all competing in this year’s illustrious competition.

Rangers fans enjoyed wishing the youngsters the best of luck as they were filmed arriving in Doha earlier in the week.

Next up for the young Rangers side in the ALKASS Cup is a match against Aspire Academy on Monday afternoon.
